Media and Columbine
"Times have not become more violent. They have just become more televised."-Marilyn Manson
"If I shoot up a school, I can be famous."- Roger Ebert
The Columbine shooting in 1999 was different than any tragedy that came before it; not because it was a school shooting, but because of the media coverage. After this shooting, it was broadcast everywhere, it was on every newspaper, magazine, and television station across the country. Not only did the massacre make headlines, and the front page everywhere, the killers did as well. This caused Eric and Dylan to become infamous in a matter of hours, showing people all around the world that the fastest way to become known across the nation is to do something so evil that it has to be publicized.
